Mystery/Suspense Reviews
The Partner
John Grisham
****
This is Grishams latest release in paperback. His new hard back is The Street Lawyer. This has some unusual twist, even for Grisham. Lawyer Patrick Lanigan stole ninety million dollars and successfully eluded capture for four years. Now hes back home, awaiting trial. This book is about a scam within a scam, with only a couple of brief courtroom scenes. One of his best a must read.
Restless
Nazi Hart
****
Hart is also Mamdalyn Kayo. Macon Stratford is a successful political consultant, but a woman who never lets anyone get too close, even her loving stepfather, her own living relative. Secret Service agent Jacob Black foot strolls into her life commanding her cooperation in an effort to capture the leaders of a world wide counterfeiter group. What he does not tell Macon is that suspects her stepfather is one of the chief conspirators. Youll enjoy the bristly dialogue between two characters who are both carrying around family baggage and eavesdropping as they fall in love is fun.
Heartstone
Phillip Margolin
****1/2
Years later the murders of two teens remains unsolved. Careers were made and ruined in the process of trying to get convictions. Hypnosis, questionable police practices, issues of redemption, all feed in to this unusual story. Very worth your while if you like books of this type.
Jack and Jill
James Patterson

Some of you may recognize black detective Alex Cross from earlier works, well hes back and more interesting than ever. I love his mouthy grandmother and his cadre of fellow officers and Patterson gives Alex two complex cases that twist and turn to intrigue and drive you crazy.
Vengeance in Death
J.D. Robb (aka Nora Roberts)
****
Boy, you got to love Nora Roberts, that woman gets around as a writer. This is the second in a series starring police detective Eve Dallas and her Irish-born millionaire husband with a shady past. Serial killer is on the loose and hes picked Eve as his opponent, although his ultimate goal is to destroy anything Eves husband loves. Oh, one twist here this story is set in 2050. Got to get the first one. Pay attention, Twyla. Save it for me.
